The National Collegiate Athletic Association requires specific high school courses for participation in collge athletics. High school athletes should consult the NCAA eligibility website for more information.
A great deal of information is available for students and parents through the NCAA site. Students may also consult with their athletic director and/or counselor for advice regarding the NCAA eligibility requirements. Listed below are the DIvision I requirements. Division II requirements are slightly different. Division III requirements are based on the admission requirements for that specific college.
16 Core Courses:
4 years of English
3 years of Math (Algebra 1 or higher)
2 years of natural/physical science (1 year of lab)
1 year of additional English, mathematics or natural/physical science
2 years of Social Science
4 yeas of additional courses (from any area listed above or foreign language)
- Only core courses are used in the calculation of the grade-point average for NCAA
- Be sure to look at Oswego’s list of approved courses to make sure your student athlete is meeting the minimum requirements
